KARACHI (Our Correspondent): Chief Secretary Sindh Dr. Muhammad Sohail Rajput chaired an important meeting regarding second phase of Local Government Elections in Karachi and Hyderabad divisions.
Provincial Election Commissioner Aijaz Anwar Chohan, IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon, Commissioner Karachi Muhammad Iqbal Memon, Secretary School Education Ghulam Akbar Laghari, Secretary College Education Khalid Haider Shah and all the Deputy Commissioners of Karachi and Hyderabad Division participated in the meeting.
The meeting reviewed the arrangements for the second phase of local body elections in Karachi and Hyderabad divisions of Sindh and the by-elections on NA-245.
Speaking at the meeting, Sindh Chief Secretary Dr. Muhammad Sohail Rajput said that the Sindh government will provide full support to the Election Commission for the conduct of elections, adding that CCTV cameras will be installed at the most sensitive polling stations.
Chief Secretary Sindh directed Commissioner Karachi and Commissioner Hyderabad to ensure the missing facilities at the polling stations. He further said that for the convenience of voters, necessary facilities such as drinking water and ramps for the disabled people would also be provided at the polling stations.
Chief Secretary Sindh assured the Provincial Election Commissioner and said that security and other arrangements for the elections will be ensured. Provincial Election Commissioner and IG Sindh gave a briefing in the meeting. Provincial Election Commissioner Aijaz Anwer Chohan said that 2nd phase of LG elections will be held in Karachi and Hyderabad divisions on August 28. “Out of the 9222 polling stations in the second phase of local government elections, 2528 are highly sensitive polling stations” he said.
He further informed the meeting that by-elections on NA 245will also be held on August 21. He further said that for the implementation of the Election Code of Conduct it has been clarified in the meeting with the heads of all the political parties that violation of the Code of Conduct will not be tolerated.
In the meeting, IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon said that the security plan of the police has been prepared for the peaceful conduct of the elections. “52485 police personnel will perform their duties in the second phase of municipal elections” He said. Ghulam Nabi Memon further said that the Quick Response Force will also be on alert in case of any emerging situation.
