BIRMINGHAM (News Desk): England were dealt a major blow in the Commonwealth Games with skipper Heather Knight ruled out of the competition.

Heather Knight has been ruled out of the remainder of the Commonwealth Games with a hip injury. Knight, who hadn’t appeared in the first two matches of the tournament for England, suffered the injury during the recent T20Is against South Africa at home.

Nat Sciver had led England in Knight’s absence in the first two matches against South Africa and Sri Lanka which they went on to win. There is no replacement player named with the rules not permitting it, leaving England with a 14-member squad for the remainder of the Commonwealth Games.

While Knight had taken injections to her hip joint during the South Africa series, there was only a minor improvement in the scans.

With the two wins in the first two matches, England have booked their spot in the semi-finals of the Commonwealth Games. Their final group fixture is against New Zealand on Thursday and it’ll determine the topper in the group.
