ISLAMABAD (Eshfak Mughal) :- Pakistani share in the bilateral trade with China was squeezed by 3 percent to 14 percent during the last fiscal year as compared to 2020-21 mainly due to incompetency of Pakistani exporters who could take advantage capture Chinese market.

The sources in the Commerce Ministry told “Voice of Pakistan” that bilateral trade between Pakistan and China was increased by $4 billion to $20.08 billion from $16.08 billion during the fiscal year 2021-22 as compared to fiscal year 2020-21. However the volume of bilateral trade between the both countries was increase in favor of Chinese side which is already very thick as compare to Pakistani exports.

Pakistan has exported different items worth of $ 2.78 billion to China during the last fiscal year. However, the Chinese side has exported worth of $17.30 billion during same period.

It is pertinent to mention here that Chinese imports were climbed to over $2 trillion to cater its local demand annually, according to different estimates. Unluckily, Pakistani exporters unable to capture even one percent of total Chinese market, the figures show.   

According to the sources, the Pakistani share in bilateral trade with China decreased despite that Pak-China Free Trade Agreement. Pakistani share in bilateral trade with China was shrunk to 14 percent from 17 percent during last two years. Contrary of that, the Chinese share was swelled by 3 percent from 83 percent to 86 percent during fiscal year 2021-22 as compared to the fiscal year 2020-21.

Sources further said that bilateral traded between Pakistan and China was recorded at $16.08 billion including $13.3 billion of Chinese exports to Pakistan and Pakistan exported $2.04 billion to China during the last fiscal year. The trade figures constitute 17 percent slice for Pakistan and 83 percent for China during the period.

The bilateral trade volume was recorded at $11.23 billion during the fiscal year 2019-20, according to the Commerce Ministry.

The volume of Pakistani imports from China was recorded at $11.23 billion including 9.57 billion from China to Pakistan and $1,66 billion from Pakistan to China. The bilateral trade figures show that the Pakistani share was only 15 percent and China has 85 percent share in trade with Pakistan during the fiscal year 2019-20
