ISLAMABAD (our reporter):- The Federal Government has imposed ban on purchasing new vehicles, creation of new posts, treatment, avoidable official visits within country and abroad on government expenses under the of austerity campaign for the current fiscal year. The fuel cost of federal ministers and cabinet members has been slashed by 40 percent and 50 percent respectively.
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has forward the policy guidelines of Finance Ministry to its formation offices regarding austerity drive.
The FBR, on Friday, issued instruction to the all Chief Commissioners, Chief Collectors, Director Generals, , Collectors and Commissioners-IR (Appeals) in this regards.
Under the Austerity Measures for the current fiscal year issued by the Finance Ministry, there will be complete banned on the purchasing of all types of vehicles from current and development budget except utility vehicles such as ambulances, buses for educational institutions, solid waste vehicles.
There will be also complete ban on creation of new posts except those required for development projects, purchasing of office furniture except for development projects and treatment abroad at government expenses.
The govt has also imposed ban on appointment of contingent paid/daily wages staff except for development projects, purchasing of machinery and equipment including air conditioners, microwave, fridge and photocopier.
It will be complete banned on official visits abroad by government functionaries where the government funding is involved except obligatory visits, official lunches/dinners/ hi-tea except for foreign delegations and purchasing of periodical, magazines and news papers.
Under the austerity drive, the Principal Accounting Officers shall ensure that the consumption of utilities be reduced by 10 percent, existing entitlement of POL for government functionaries be reduced by 30 percent.
The PAOs will also ensure to avoidable travel be curtailed by promoting use of zoom/video links and vacant/redundant/non-productive posts be abolished.
The Federal Govt has also decided that the POL usage of Ministers’ vehicles would be slashed by 40 percent and security vehicles of Cabinet members would be reduced by 50 percent. VVIP cavalcades’ expense would be reduced without compromising security.
