ISLAMABAD (our reporter):- The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has proposed to give cash award to the officers or officials of other law enforcement agencies who assist Customs department in seizure of smuggled goods and vehicles.

The FBR has issued a draft amendments in the Customs Rules, 2001 through SRO 972 (I) 2022 for taking feedback from relevant stakeholders.

In the proposed draft, the FBR said ” the officers and officials of other law enforcement agencies who assist Customs officers and officials or are actually instrumental in seizure of smuggled goods and vehicles for their meritorious conduct in such cases only after realization of part or whole of the duty and taxes involved in such cases”.

“The respective Collectorate of Customs shall issue certificate in this regard and officer and officials of the other law enforcement agencies shall receive the requisite amount from their respective department”, suggested in the draft.
The Federal Board of Revenue has published the draft for information of all persons likely to be affected thereby and, as required under sub-section (3A) of section 219 of the Customs Act, 1969 (IV of 1969), notice is hereby given that objections or suggestions thereon, if any, may for consideration of the Board be sent within 15 days of publication of the draft amendments in the official Gazette.

Objections or suggestions received from any person, before the expiry of the aforesaid period, shall be taken into consideration by the FBR.
